  • Just A Quick Note

    June 18, 2025

I wanted to let everyone know that I’m still alive but just have had a lot of downturns over the last couple of years which has led me to not post here as often. I see from my comments that a couple of you are looking for help with the Deal A Meal poster so I wanted to clarify a couple of things in this brief visit.

First of all, Deal A Meal is a product/idea that Richard Simmons came up with way back when to first help himself lose weight, and then he brought it to everyone else with the same idea in mind. And an icon was born. So to Richard goes all the credit for all of that – without him many of us would have simply given up on our goals but he made losing weight and eating well doable. Thank you Richard – we love and miss you.

I made that poster many years ago in an attempt to lose weight. I figured if I made the whole system big with all the info on the cards more accessible and posted where I would see it all the time I would do it. Not so much. So I scrapped that idea. However those are the posts I get the most comments on and I’m thrilled that people are getting helped with it. So if that has worked for you – great! Keep it up!

The other thing about the Deal A Meal plan/poster is that folks are always asking about how much of what to eat and that is not something I am able to do. I myself look to outside sources for that information. I had the Deal A Meal cards years ago but I don’t have them anymore. I found a website that had all that information but I think that website is gone now (a bummer because it was really good). That said, the place to get all that information about what foods to eat daily and serving sizes is My Plate (my plate.gov). The website has a lot of information on all the food groups, menu plans, and even printables, so please go there for that information. I’m sorry but I don’t have the time to post all that here because it is A LOT of information. Thank you for understanding.

And with all that said I’m needing to get some dishes and vacuuming done. One thing I still do is Flylady so at least there’s that. :D Have a great day everyone and keep on keeping on and thank you for visiting.

ETA – Richard Simmons based the cards on the diabetic exchange system so if you search that you will come up with a lot of lists and resources. Hope that also helps.

About Me

Mom avatar

Hi - welcome to Oh Crap! and if you come back enough times you'll soon find out why I named my blog that.

I am an unperfect mom to 8 great kids: 5 boys and 3 girls (and I had them in that order too).

I have been married for either 40 really long or really short years depending on how my day is going.

Even though I have homeschooled my children for the last 31 years, I am certainly no supermom - unless you count the days I have to rescue my daughters from a moth in their room.

I love coffee, chocolate, and music from the 80's. I enjoy reading books, chick flicks, and thirtysomething.

So, that's me in a nutshell (and I'm probably more of a nut than you know). Thank you for visiting me on my blog!
