Silent Sunday
March 15, 2015
It is eerily quiet in the house today. All six kids are sick with the flu – somehow Mike and I have managed to escape it (and I hope it stays that way). So, they are all sleeping and I have actual time on my hands to do things I don’t normally have a lot of time to do. Like reading. I also went out to Starbucks earlier and to Hastings to look at books (and I found a few as well). When I returned I made myself a quick Bacon and Egg Salad (from Nigella Lawson’s cook book Nigella Kitchen). It turned out deliciously! Now, I’ve got the kettle boiling and I’m going to enjoy tea and biscuits and read some more. I am currently reading Home Grown by Ben Hewitt. It’s a wonderful book on his family’s life in Vermont, but also about how they homeschool (unschool) their children. I agree with much he has to say and it has given me much food for thought as well.
I am also thinking of possibly walking to the library. The weather is gorgeous and I need to clean up the furniture outside so I can sit and that’s not done yet. Maybe I should do that. :-) I do enjoy sitting under the little umbrella and coloring in my coloring book or reading and enjoying a cool beverage. It is just too nice to stay in. But, I probably won’t do the walking thing because I need to be nurse to all these sick kids. I’ve spent the last four days dispensing Advil, filling the humidifiers, and making sure kids are comfortable. Until everyone recovers, this is what I’ll be doing.
We were going to have a lovely spring break week while Chris was visiting, but it looks like he’ll be breezing in for his dental appointment and breezing right back out so he doesn’t get sick (and the fact there’s nothing to do while everyone else is sick). We were going to bbq, and go to local areas for shopping. But, not now. We are all equally sad about this. I wish there was a stronger word for bummer. Fucking bummer?
So, it is a Silent Sunday this week and I’m going to enjoy it since I’m healthier (knock on wood) and have the down time for once. I’m also praying that these kids get better soon – I do not enjoy seeing them so sick. Well, I hear coughing again and one of the kids is up so I’d better go. Silence never lasts very long in our house. :-)
