Slowing My Pace Down
March 29, 2012
This week I resolved to slow down a little bit. Monday morning I decided to take our school break a week early – I really needed it. That and I’d been awake since 2 am!!
On Tuesday these books arrived:
Amish Peace by Suzanne Woods Fisher
Amish Values For Your Family by Suzanne Woods Fisher
No, I’m not becoming Amish, but I see that they have a way of life I value and would like to have too. Even just a little bit. Some things I already do – a close knit family, simpler life with less things than most people – but I still have a way to go. So I’m reading these little stories and at the end of each one there are some questions to ponder in your heart and see what changes you can make in your own life.
So this evening I went outside to walk in the backyard – something I haven’t done in a really long time. I just don’t go outside much and not sure why. While I was outside I touched a tree branch – okay, it may sound weird but, when was the last time you touched a tree branch or a leaf or a flower?? For me it’s been awhile! The wind was cool after another warm spring day. The wildflowers are springing up and spreading their fragrance around too. So much beauty to take in! Why do I stay inside so much?
Then, Maggie came up to me with a treasure map and I went inside while she hid the clues :-). I went back outside to search and it was so fun! At the end of wandering the yard finding the clues was a little note with a purple violet wildflower and the note said, “I love you Mom”. Oh yes, let’s slow the pace down and discover what delights await us each day!

No time for sin and vice, living in an Amish paradise.
Also, no indoor plumbing.

HA! I looked up the indoor plumbing thing and here is an article with http://blog.garden-gate.com/2011/02/10-myths-about-amish-from-holmes-county.html" rel="nofollow">10 Myths about the Amish - most DO have indoor plumbing. I totally forgot about someone bringing up that song. Ah well.
