  • Control Journal 5 – Menu Planning – The Meals

    November 3, 2011

Okay, so now you have your shopping list and  it’s time to plan the menu.  I wrote about this here awhile back, and there are lots of websites to help with this so take your pick.  Essentially it boils down to what I said:  start with one week and write a breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each day of that week (this is the time to make the things you usually make and not the time to get creative).  Then, make your shopping list from those recipes, and go shopping.  Get everything on the list!  That is important so you’re not wasting time going back out for something you need.

Now you have a weeks worth of meals in your house and a plan to follow each day!  Yeah, baby, it really is that simple.  However, it is time consuming to think of what to fix each night, but just stick with it.  And here’s something even cooler, if you make a new menu plan each week for say 4-6 weeks, now you have a rotating menu plan you can use for a season! Ooohhh – cool eh? You might be saying, but I eat lunch out ’cause I work.  Okay, then only make a breakfast and dinner plan. Or you might say,  but I eat the same thing for breakfast.   All right already – then just make a dinner menu (and count yourself lucky).

That reminds me, I have been working on my rotating seasonal plan and need to get that finished this weekend.  It is TOO hard to wing it and too hard to think of new dishes when you have so many other things to do.  We need to eat and as long as we have a good meal on the table and family to share it with we’re doing all right.  We don’t need to eat out every day (which isn’t healthy and gets boring anyway) or eat fancy gourmet meals either.  Good plain family fare that feeds our bodies and souls is all we really need.  Saves money too :-).

Don’t forget that the shopping list, and even the menu plans you make goes behind the Menu Planning tab in the Control Journal.  That’s how you start to create your rotating meal plans too – by keeping it all in one place.  Here’s a link to a menu planner to print out to get started although I have used whatever paper I have on hand too.

One more thing – the FlyLady website FINALLY got revamped and I must say it is awesome!  So, my previous links I may have to change to reflect that, otherwise you can scout around.  It is definitely much easier to find things now.   And amazingly, what is the Habit of the Month?  Menu Planning!  Well, isn’t that timely :-).  Go here to see what she has to say about it and get started!

About Me

Mom avatar

Hi - welcome to Oh Crap! and if you come back enough times you'll soon find out why I named my blog that.

I am an unperfect mom to 8 great kids: 5 boys and 3 girls (and I had them in that order too).

I have been married for either 40 really long or really short years depending on how my day is going.

Even though I have homeschooled my children for the last 31 years, I am certainly no supermom - unless you count the days I have to rescue my daughters from a moth in their room.

I love coffee, chocolate, and music from the 80's. I enjoy reading books, chick flicks, and thirtysomething.

So, that's me in a nutshell (and I'm probably more of a nut than you know). Thank you for visiting me on my blog!
