Oh Crap! – Musings of an Unperfect Mommy

Spring is just about upon us and I switch my music out from my fall/winter songs to lighter music that also echoes back to a time in my life now 30 years past. That’s right folks, this May will be 30 years since graduating from high school – yikes! But, we’ll save all that for another post. So, what was I listening to 30 years ago? REO Speedwagon for starters! See, there was this senior trip to Six Flags that I went on and someone brought their boom box and they listened to nothing but REO Speedwagon’s Hi Infidelity for the whole trip. I grew to love this album and now I can’t imagine a spring or summer without it. Instead of talking about all of the songs, I’m going to pick my absolute favorites and talk about those.

1. Take It On The Run – This is just an awesome, awesome rock song! The lyrics are fantastic and the music is excellent – especially that awesome guitar solo in the middle. Thank heavens it is on Rock Band now – it’s about time people!

2. In Your Letter – This is a song that takes its cues from 50’s and 60’s pop songs and I think that’s why I like it so much. The music is catchy and so are the lyrics – it’s hard not to sing along. Also, when I was much younger and before I was married with children, I took an aerobics class with a friend of mine. This was the days before all the big gyms starting showing up and it was just a small class and we exercised to Jane Fonda’s workout album. This song was on that record. Interesting no?

3. Tough Guys – I love the opening with a clip of The Little Rascals and then talking about these jock type guys who love themselves and think everyone else should too. I’ve known a few of those types in my life. Unfortunately. Favorite line on this one: “They think they’re full of fire/She thinks they’re full of shi*t. Hehehe.

4. Don’t Let Him Go – This is another song along the lines of Tough Guys, but it could just as much be talking about a man in his 40’s in a midlife crisis as much as a younger man in his 20’s sowing his wild oats.

Honorable Mentions: Follow My Heart, Out of Season, Someone Tonight

I do want to add that they released five songs from this album, and I had all of those singles, so I basically had the album on those singles as the B-sides were all songs from the album too. Great music, memorable days.

It is indeed a good album. While I personally prefer Good Trouble over this, Take It on the Run is probably my favorite REO song of all time.
And not just because I can 100% vocal that song on expert in Rock Band >_>

Yes, and a fine birthday gift it was too. I don't think we've ever seen Hi Infidelity have we? I'm pretty sure we would have bought it if we had.
