Saturday’s Oh Crap Moment
August 22, 2010
Ah yes, so I’m thinking everything is just fine. Jeff called to say he was going over to his friend’s house after work. That meant we only needed to pick Chris up at 10. Or so I thought. I’m relaxing and watching Two Fat Ladies on the telly and at 9:08 we get a call from Chris asking why there is no one there to pick him up. Apparently he got off work at 9!! Oh crap!! And I look down at my planner and indeed it says 9 – not 10. I run and yell to Mike he needs to go get kiddo. I had it in my mind all day that quitting time for Chris was 10. *sigh* Luckily I had a piece of cheesecake to wash away the stench of failure. :-)

Flashback
August 19, 2010
So there I was, browsing in K-Mart, when I hear the opening bars of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Diana Ross. Suddenly I was transported back in time – I was a young girl, going across the Bay Bridge to visit my grandparents in San Francisco. I was a teen sitting in my room in our London flat reading or coloring or writing. I was at a dime store in Wisconsin picking out penny candy. Yes, that one song evoked all those summertime memories of days gone by. It seems like it was so long ago, and then ago it seems like it went by all to quickly.

A Taste of Fall
August 18, 2010
Yesterday was much cooler than it has been for a long time! We had about 2 inches of rain in the morning and at noon the temp was only 66 degrees! When I stepped out of the house, the breeze was blowing cool and it was so very refreshing. We are all anticipating the change of seasons and looking forward to fall weather. It is supposed to be hot again this weekend, but this is at least a nice respite and a taste of things to come!! That reminds me – those fall candles at Bath and Body works are only $5! :-)

Music Monday!
August 16, 2010
Welcome to the first MUSIC MONDAY folks! Here is where we will discuss music – and plenty of it. My kids can tell you that music has been a large part of their growing up years and it still continues to be something special to most of us. My husband has an mp3 player and listens to music on his bike rides to and from work. I listen to music in my car and on Pandora at home. My older kids listen to music all the time (even late at night – it’s a comforting thing to listen to) and even the littles have their favorites (which will be a post later on this year). So, without further ado, here’s today’s Music Monday!
Well, summertime is winding down and fall is approaching, that means I’ll be switching out my summer music for my fall music (that’s another post altogether). So, today’s topic is – what are your favorite summer albums/songs that you listen to every summer? Here are mine, in no particular order (except for those first two albums. maybe.).
1) Rio – Duran Duran
2) Vacation – Go-Go’sThose two in my book are THE summer albums of summer albums. They always make me think of beaches and sun and those fantastic Duran Duran videos from MTV :-).
3) Hi Infidelity – REO Speedwagon
4) Good Trouble – REO SpeedwagonThey go together – they really do. Usually I crack out Hi Infidelity in late spring because it reminds me of graduation – but I also listen to it well into the summer too.
5) Debussy for Daydreaming – This was part of a series from Phillips Music called Set Your Life to Music and I love these cd’s! This particular one reminds me of Paris, and summer, and country walks, and impressionist paintings. It is very soothing to the soul. I need to say that we have serveral cd’s in this series and all are excellent!
6) Reflections: Carly Simon’s Greatest Hits – Need I say more? The best of the best. Okay, there are a couple or so songs I really don’t like, but otherwise it is an excellent album to listen to.
7) Journey’s Greatest Hits – This is a year round favorite and we’ll get back to this one later on another Music Monday. Yes, it deserves a post of its own!
I also have an mp3 mix of my own called “80’s Summer Music” and it has stuff on it like, “Drive” by the Cars, “Everybody Wants To Rule the World”, by Tears for Fears, and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. There are lots of my favorite summer hits from way back when and it always evokes memories of summers past.
Phew! Okay – now it’s your turn – what music do you like to listen to during the summer?

At the College Yesterday
August 11, 2010
So yesterday Jeff had to go for his residual ACT test and I had a lot of waiting around to do because it was out of town at a college an hour away. And also I did not want to backtrack to another town along a very windy road – twice was enough thank you. So, I lounged in the van while it was cool and read a book. When it got too hot I decided to go look at the town. That did not take long – even with a stop at the strip mall. So, I went back to the college and waited in air conditioned comfort – essential when the temp was probably 101 at least by that time – and read the other book I’d brought. So, I’m sitting there reading and this guy comes up to me with bubble wrap and says, “This is for you”. So, I said that my kids would enjoy that and he said, “Adults can enjoy it too”. Hehehe! Well, I’m sitting there, reading my Shopaholic book, and from behind I suddenly hear, “POP, POP, POP”. The receptionist at the desk was enjoying her bubble wrap. I smiled.

The Oh Crap! Moment That Launched the Blog
August 9, 2010
I remembered today that this particular moment was the one that inspired me to name my blog Oh Crap:
It was late in spring and we had been having a little round of sickness going through our home – complete with throwing up. So, on this particular day I was back from chauffering one of my older kids to
work. Well, no sooner had I got out of the car (and barely up the front steps), when the front door opened and I was greeted with, “Mommy, M just puked!” and I saw son #4 in the background with a towel and telling me that he was cleaning up the couch. What were my words? OH CRAP! Yeah – that sums up that moment. And thus the name of my blog was born. -
A Thank You and A First Real Post
First of all, I forgot to thank Son #1 who pulled my blog together yesterday afternoon with me. We had a lot of fun choosing colors, figuring fonts out and the like. Since we don’t see a lot of each other these days, it was great to spend an afternoon talking and programming. Thanks Matt!
Also, I want to explain the title. My life is full of Oh Cr*p moments – believe me. And when we were talking blog titles I mentioned I should just name it Oh crap! because it really did fit. Son #1 laughed and said, “Do it”. So, it stuck. The “unperfect mommy” bit? This is not going to be a blog about how I’m a perfect mom and I do all this great stuff with my kids and they win awards (but I might brag on them from time to time), how I keep a neat as a pin house, how I keep all the feast and seasons of the Church, etc. Nope – I am ordinary, but you know what? I like being ordinary! I like being home with my children and teaching them about life and academics. I like listening to music with my older children and talking and talking about a myriad of subjects. Ordinary? Maybe..maybe not. One thing is certain, I am not perfect and I’ll write about a lot of those unperfect, oh crap moments in my life.
So, stick around – check in from time to time and see what this unperfect mommy’s life is about.

My Blog Launch!
Welcome to Oh Cr*p – Musings of an Unperfect Mommy! I’ll have more to say about that later, but I hope you find it a place of relaxation, fun, and refreshment. As the name states I’m not a perfect mom and the other part? Stuff happens in a house with 8 kids – believe me!! See you all soon!
