Music Monday!
August 16, 2010
Welcome to the first MUSIC MONDAY folks! Here is where we will discuss music – and plenty of it. My kids can tell you that music has been a large part of their growing up years and it still continues to be something special to most of us. My husband has an mp3 player and listens to music on his bike rides to and from work. I listen to music in my car and on Pandora at home. My older kids listen to music all the time (even late at night – it’s a comforting thing to listen to) and even the littles have their favorites (which will be a post later on this year). So, without further ado, here’s today’s Music Monday!
Well, summertime is winding down and fall is approaching, that means I’ll be switching out my summer music for my fall music (that’s another post altogether). So, today’s topic is – what are your favorite summer albums/songs that you listen to every summer? Here are mine, in no particular order (except for those first two albums. maybe.).
1) Rio – Duran Duran
2) Vacation – Go-Go’sThose two in my book are THE summer albums of summer albums. They always make me think of beaches and sun and those fantastic Duran Duran videos from MTV :-).
3) Hi Infidelity – REO Speedwagon
4) Good Trouble – REO SpeedwagonThey go together – they really do. Usually I crack out Hi Infidelity in late spring because it reminds me of graduation – but I also listen to it well into the summer too.
5) Debussy for Daydreaming – This was part of a series from Phillips Music called Set Your Life to Music and I love these cd’s! This particular one reminds me of Paris, and summer, and country walks, and impressionist paintings. It is very soothing to the soul. I need to say that we have serveral cd’s in this series and all are excellent!
6) Reflections: Carly Simon’s Greatest Hits – Need I say more? The best of the best. Okay, there are a couple or so songs I really don’t like, but otherwise it is an excellent album to listen to.
7) Journey’s Greatest Hits – This is a year round favorite and we’ll get back to this one later on another Music Monday. Yes, it deserves a post of its own!
I also have an mp3 mix of my own called “80’s Summer Music” and it has stuff on it like, “Drive” by the Cars, “Everybody Wants To Rule the World”, by Tears for Fears, and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. There are lots of my favorite summer hits from way back when and it always evokes memories of summers past.
Phew! Okay – now it’s your turn – what music do you like to listen to during the summer?

Glad to hear my gratuitous anime music playing late at night doesn't piss you off ^_^
As for my musical tastes, it revolves so min from month to month that I couldn't honestly name an overall favorite, let alone a seasonal one. I agree with your list mostly with, of course, the exception of the Go-Gos and Cynsi Lauper. And, now that I think of it, where the hell is Rock Lobster?

Yeah, I forgot about Rock Lobster - can't believe I did that. Oh, and those typos in your comment - tsk, tsk, tsk!!

Wow, I am the most uncool person ever because I don't really listen to music. I have all kinds of music on my iPod but I never, ever listen to it. In the car I listen to whatever is on the radio. But from my childhood, I do remember loving the Monkees and Abba. Those are probably the "summertime" tunes for me. And I also remember listening to a Carpenters 8-track (yes, 8-track!) over and over again when we would go on family trips in the big blue van.

Val, can you hook up your ipod in your car and listen to it there? At least that way all that great music gets listened to :-). Ah yes, ABBA - many memories for me too (stay tuned!). The Carpenters - oh, I loved them too! And yes, I had 8-tracks as well - I laugh about it now, but they were also the most annoying way to listen to music. Most of the songs were chopped up from one track to the next - I hated that.
